Adrian Eröd seduces audience with portrayal of ‘Don Giovanni’

…most of what made silky-voiced Eröd’s portrayal so distinctive emanated directly from him… Eröd’s Giovanni was a seducer rather than a showoff…Eröd showed that suave singing can be the No.1 ingredient in Giovanni’s appeal.
Rather than carrying on like the 18th century’s version of a frat boy, Eröd’s Giovanni was slim, alabaster-skinned, graceful – and downright dandified when he wore a big, feathered hat in the early scenes. He hardly looked dangerous. That’s what made it so powerful when Giovanni’s real character came through… As Giovanni relished his exploits – or the ones he envisioned – Eröd’s vitality and glee exuded coldheartedness…
In the “Champagner-Aria” and other devil-may-care outbursts, Eröd sang with a gusto and vigor that showed how driven Giovanni remained despite his setbacks.
Even though most other principals had bigger vocal-showcase numbers, none eclipsed Eröd as a dramatic force.

Adrian Eröd’s Giovanni is not the debonair and ravishing Adonis that the character thinks he is. He is physically scrawny, but perfectly brings to life the suave, sensual charms that sway and woo his conquests with delicate and practiced ease. His unflinchingly and unapologetic characterization of Don Giovanni ensures that the climactic decision to never repent is believable, facing a sentence to hell without fear or atonement. His rich and melodic Baritone is melodious and well suited and adeptly exploited by the role.
